Hello again,
We're in the process of having three rooms of hardwood refinished and a new hardwood floor installed in the kitchen, to match the rest. We're experimenting with stain colors and are having a problem in that the stains look very different between the old floor and the new one. They are not going to match well and we were told when we contracted that this would not be a problem. We did expect some minor degree of variance but this is very noticeable. We've noticed that the original wood looks much clearer and is free of knot holes and the new floor has a lot of knot holes and has more variance in color between boards. We're wondering if perhaps our contractor has purchased a lesser grade of wood and therein lies the color/stain problem? We were told the wood is #1 red oak. What do you think? Thanks!
