Jeff, What part of CT? I'm from Fairfield area. Sounds like a great place. You got two options the way I see it. First the hardest and cheapest. Go sister those off but code will make you go with 2x12 because of 24" spacing, low pitched roof, and insulation factor if you plan to make living space up there. Second easier, but expensive. If the roof is in bad shape and it needs new sheathing and shilgles why not demo the roof and build a 10-12 pitch out of 2x10's.
