steam heat furnace (gas)

pilot is on, thermostat is new (correct one).

furnace won't turn on.

there is a grey box that is over the furnace drain connected to a tube that does a 360, inside the grey box is a switch, when i toggle the switch it turns on and operates till the correct temperature set in the thermostat is reached.
