Our 1860 farmhouse has a dirt-floor basement with large flat rocks here and there to walk on. Water enters with ease, and the sump pump is kept busy. I tend to put blinders on when I go down there to do use the freezer or feed the cats. But when we had a new oil burner put in recently I looked at the basement through the eyes of the workmen and I was appalled.
Obviously, this place will never be turned into a family room! But is there anything I can do to make it a little less....gross?? (Taking down the yards of cobwebs helped some, but I have a long way to go to make it look less forbidding.)
