I recommend using Semi Transparent oil stain on
every application, the latex just does not hold
up as long. I would also advise to back prime on
all 6 surfaces for new installation to prevent
bottom surface rot. I replaced wood because of not back painting the wood when I built my addition to my house. Also, you need to install
guttering to reduce splash up from those heavy downpours.
