No, he does not have a license -- not a home improvement license anyway. I think he might have a small business license. He also told me that he has several million dollars worth of insurance and that he and his employees are bonded and insured but a friend told me that if he's not licensed that he probably wouldn't be able to get that kind of insurance. I asked some of the right questions but apparently haven't been getting honest answers. I thought that his not having a license would put me in a good position if he tried to take me to court for non-payment or if I took him to court for poor work and shoddy workmanship. I thought since he pretty much "is" doing this work outside of the state laws, that he can't demand very much. Is my thinking wrong? Thanks very much for your time.
