I'm in the process of updating my basement and i'm putting 1/2" drywall on the ceiling,previously there was 12x12 ceiling tile attached to furring strips. I decided to remove the furring strips and attach the rock to the joist directly, to give me 3/4" more head room as there is only 7' ceilings down there, and hit a snag with water pipes. there attached to the bottom of the joist and i was wondering if it would be alright to notch the joist and push them up into or if necessary repipe if they have no play in them. Is it ok to notch about 3/4 of the basement?
