How to clear water from under house

Well we just found out that we have about 7 inches of standing water in various areas under our home. We purchased a sump pump and pumped what we could out, however there is still standing water we can't get to. Any suggestions? Also, how can we prevent this in the future. We now have many mud puddles, and we have only been in the home 11 months. Can you help? Desperate in California
