I am a licensed siding contractor in the state of Washington. I install Hardi Plank and Durapress siding on a reqular basis. In my experience I do not believe that staining the Hardi Plank siding is not a good idea. Hardi Plank is a concrete based product which absorbs moisture and is best painted with an acrylic latex paint. Hope this helps.
