getting the pilot lit

I think, as tg pointed out, that getting the thermocouple (that should contact the pre-pilot flame) to complete its circuit can be difficult, particularly if its a few years old. On my gas log insert, I finally had to prop one of the ceramic logs up against the pre-pilot button for about an hour before I could let off on the pre-pilot press-switch and the pilot would stay lit. Frustrating!!
