Couldn't of said it better myself, in fact hardibacker suggested installation guideline is to use thin set to set the board, screw/nail every 4-6" across field and 2-3" at seams/edges, and don't forget to tape the joints (Fiba-tape), mud and fill joints with the thin-set.
