My heat pump works great in the summer but not in the winter. As soon as I switch the thermostat to 'heat' the outside unit goes off. I reduced the freon and got it to work in the winter but in the summer I had to put the freon back in to get it to work again. Basicly I've been working with 2 different freon amounts, one for 'cool' and one for 'heat'. I live in Florida and I own a Ruud unit (10 EER) about 5 years old. The technician suggested and additional vent for more air flow but that didn't solve the problem. Anybody has any ideas?
