I am installing ceramic tile in a kitchen. My intent is to put hardibacker over the existing 3/4 plywood floor (using mortar and screws), then the tile. My question is, can I use 1/4 inch backerboard. Will that give me enough floor strength for the tile? Also, can I use a pre-mixed mortar to adhere the backerboard to the plywood or should I use the dry mix? Thanks!
