We use 1/4 inch on the floor professionally every day and have no problems, we use 1/2 inch on the walls. As fare as pre mixed we prefer not to use that on the floors. It used to be years ago we used 1/4 inch luan, now it is a thing of the past with the modern cement and backer boards.
