Raising a sagging floor with a screw type Jack

I have a first floor that sinks in the middle of the house by two inches and would like to use a screw type house jack to raise it by degrees. Has anyone out there done this and if so what recommendations would you make regarding how long I should take, what kind of jack, what the jack should sit on, etc.

Thanks Dan de Angeli
