Hello - My husband is upset with me. I put our pet parakeet on top of a beautiful cherry wood buffet/server his dad made about 50 years ago. There are now water stains mostly on the front, they appear to be whitish in color, this is on a light cherry cupboard. Can I use petroleum jelly on this to remove these stains? There is also one large "drip-type" stain that may be from a candle or something dark like a greasy food, not sure. Would petroleum jelly work on that also? I personally believe this cupboard needs refinished. It has a very thin coating on it of either shellac or varnish. Thanks for any help, I know how Judy felt. Joan Brewster of Ohio.
