I have a hardwood floor in my kitchen that was finished using a water based polyurethane (Varathane) over a Minwax stain. The section by the sink has darkened, in all liklihood due to years of splashed water. I intend to protect that section of the floor using a rug, but I'd like to know what to do to repair it. I am wondering if there is a way to lighten it so that I can just apply another coat of finish without having to sand it down and restain it first.
