We recently purchased a duplex and I have torn up the old carpeting on the inside stairs that lead to the 2nd floor apartment. They are hardwood and beautiful, except for the fact that they have some sort of tar/glue on each stair where a anti-skid pad must have been. The duplex was built in the 20's and I know the carpeting has been on the stairs for 25 years (just trying to give you some idea as to the approximate age of the glue stuff). Any Ideas on what might help me get it off? Any advice would be apprecitated.
