Securing the bottom plate to concrete floor Posted by Bruce M on December 8th, 1998 11:08 PM In reply to Finishing A Basement by Ira on December 2nd, 1998 06:06 PM [Go to top of thread]
Hi Ira I tend to agree with Henry. I put the bottom plate exactly where I want it, then drill through the 2X4 and into the concrete using a roto-hammer. I then suck the concrete dust out of the hole using a shop vac, tap in my anchor and then drive a #8 galvanized wood screw through the 2X4 into the anchor. I like this, because if you make a mistake (ugh!), you can withdraw the screw and move the 2X4....not that we ever make mistakes :-) With adhesives and power nailers...they may be faster, but try moving the plate after fastening it! Also, with older concrete, you will need a good roto hammer, as the concrete is hard and difficult to drill. Best Bruce M
