Our condominium development has buildings which were sided with white cedar shingles about 15 years ago. I understand that they were painted with a preservative stain at that time. Out condo board is now considering restaining the shingles all over again. They claim that some of them are drying out. (We are by salt water.)
I always understood that white cedar did not need to have anything done to it, and honestly, I feel that most of the shingles don't look as though they need attention. Am I wrong? I understand that sometimes some shingles may have to be replaced, but does the whole development need to be done?
