My sister-in-law dried out her maple table top by having it too close to a wood burning stove.The result: at the end of the table closest to the stove a 5/8inch bow has resulted. The table is 3 foot by 6.5 foot consisting of 5 boards, 1.125 inches thick, butt glued. Also when the table was built the builder failed to alternate the grain on two center boards.
Should I use water, tung oil or ? on the underside to reintroduce moisture to the table? And any suggestions for straigthening out the table? When we stood on either edge of the underside we could just about get the surface straight although a nasty crack started to appear.
