The anticipator is a heater that requires the REAL and ACTUAL amount of amperes going through it as written on the dial. Although the gas valve can say that it shout be set at such-and-such, thermostat wire sizes and lengths also create resistance and furnace control loads can vary according to the ACTUAL line voltage, so ACTUAL ampere flow can be considerably different.
The most secure way to set an anticipator is to use a sensitive ampere meter to find what the ACTUAL ampere flow is through the thermostat and start there on the anticipator dial. The setting is then moved upward or downward on the dial in small increments to find the optimum position for the particular room heating characteristics. You haved LUCKED upon the better setting.
