I am purchasing a townhome which will be finished next year. I am now selecting my upgrades to the home from the builder, and I was wondering was was more cost effective and convenient when it comes to deciding to select the builder's $3500 gas fireplace upgrade, or should I skip the cost and install an electric FP myself that I have seen at a store for approx. $700? What is the difference between the gas and the electric FP's when it comes to monthly expense?
