Pilot Light won't stay lit

I live in a trailer. The furnace is gas. The pilot light is suppose to stay on all the time, but my grandson turned the gas off and the pilot light went out. I lit the pilot light by holding down the black knob. It lights but when I release the black know, it goes out. Is there something else I need to do?
