I had the same problem with my McPherson there is a plastic tube in the valve that had to be replaced. Once it was replaced it work fine (10yrs now. Hardware stores sell plastic tubing see if you can find a replacement. Alternative is to try & clean it out with some sort of cleaning solvent.
