Draining your system allows the water hammer arresters in your system to refill with air and absorb the shock of the water being suddenly shut off. I don't know what the new faucet would have to do with it unless it now allows more flow as compared to the one it replaced.
One permanent solution is to install an accumulator in place of the arrestors. An accumulator has a bladder in it that separates the water from the air so that it doesn't get waterlogged every 6 weeks. These devices are often installed on dishwasher and clotheswasher water inlets to eliminate the waterhammer (thump) when the solenoids in these appliances suddenly shut off the water.
