We built a new house and our fireplace is leaking as well. With each rain storm the front of the fireplace gets wet inside. We have had to put a bucket inside the fireplace to collect the water. The last rain storm caused water to soak my rug, but only on the right side of the fireplace. The builder is saying that the bricks are leaking and we need a sealer put on the outside of the fireplace. the fireplace is on the back of the house. I am concerned with where the water would be coming from and if indeed the water is leaking through the bricks, would that cause my mantle and wall to have water in them. I am concerned with mold. Has anyone heard of this and do you have any suggestions to handling this problem. thanks
