Refinishing Parquet Oak Floors (ADVICE NEEDED)!!! Posted by Ron C on January 25th, 1999 03:14 PM
I am buying a house that has 1,400 sqft of parquet oak floors. The place is 18 years old, and the previous owner says he sanded and applied a coat of polyurthene one year ago. The floors look like new but they look bare (unprotected). I know that three coats of poly are recommended. I need to ask him exactly what product he used. My questions include: * How do I test the floor to see if it is protected? * How do I know if wax products were ever used over the poly? * When reapplying, they say to go with the grain. How does that apply to parquet tiles? * What is sidebonding? * What type of poly applicator is best to use with parquet tile? * Is it better to spray on vs. using an applicator? * Do I screen between a second and top coat or buff? * Based on this list of questions should I hire a professional? Thanks for any information you can provide! Ron C -- Future homeowner in Pittsburgh PA.
