Greetings Kathryn, Don't forget to get a building permit ! They are cheap and an excellent way to make sure the work is done safely. You will need smoke detectors, a CO2 detector. You will also have to make sure you can get out in case of a fire and make sure your heating system has plenty of make-up air. Good luck, Jason
