My childhood home has become available again after being used as rental property for over 20 years. My parents had layed wall to wall carpeting over the hardwood floors back in the early 70's. One of the rental famillies had over 20 cats in the house for over 5 years. Needless to say, my hardwood floors are a MESS! I thought it was hopeless, but I've gotten out all the carpets and the pads and am currently soaking the floors (the finish is long gone)with Simple Solution to remove/nutralize the urine smell. My problem is that the floors are stained all shades of brown to black. Is there any way to bleach the color back to something lighter? I'm afraid that just sanding untill the color gets better will have me sanding all the way through to the basement!
