I'll throw in my 2 cents as well.
Since the circular saw cuts upwards through the material, I take a sharp utility knife and scribe a line where the cut is going to be. I then set my guide board so the blade cuts right up to the edge of the scribed line. This seems to work very well for me in eliminating any chipping.
