redo formica top in kitchen

I have been told i can recover my formica top in the kitchen with new formica. I have remodeled everything else but the topa i am sort of nervous about it.I have een told to measure it all out,and make sure i have it in place so when i glue it i will not be able to move it.What do i used to cut the formica i have been told,a utility knife will work. Help please sherry
