that you should be able to figure out what you have and dryers are usually very inexpensive to repair. Usually, the top of the dryer "snaps" into some bayonet connections. Access when you have removed a couple of sheetmetal screws on the back is as easy as just lifting up the top. Often the belt tensioner pulley wheel or one of the drum support wheels binds up and just needs a little lubrication. You sound capable of this repair.
Tell the appliance store people if their ware can't last more than 5 years, you don't want it in your home.
