Help...I am installing a sub floor with 2x6s over a slab floor. The slam is not level, upon levelng the new floor I know have to raise my 36" double doors 8 1/2". The beam on top of the door is one 6x6 along with 4 2x6s = 11.5" total heigth or a home made 12x6? On top of this is a double pain window 5ft heigh by 8ft wide. My problem is that I cant raise the window. My doors are 80" tall.
What is the minimum beam size that I can use? Can I use a steel "I" beam instead of wood and would it be thinner? So subtracting 8.5 from 11.5 = 3". I could get an extra inch if I eliminate top door frame = 4 inches. I live in California and this is in a commercial building, 80" heigh doors seem to be standard, could I cut the door say 2" making it 78, what is the UBC rules? Thanks Ron
