Woody, do not insulate directly against the underside of your roof decking; this will cause problems!
Yes, insulate, but be sure to leave at least 1" (1-1/2" is better) between the insulation and the decking for airflow. Sometime a 1X2 is plated on each side of the rafters, then covered with a thin foam insulation board to create a box "duct" against the decking. Be sure that at the top the air can continue on up and out of the remaining attic space, too.
