Wood Floor Posted by Henry in MI on February 23rd, 1999 12:25 AM In reply to what can I do? by angieb. on February 22nd, 1999 08:14 PM [Go to top of thread]
Angie, I suggest that you consider something like an engineered wood floor. While the cost is 2-3 times that of carpet, a good one will last you 5 times as long or more. If this is the only drawback you have found to the house you are considering purchasing, I sure would not let that stop me. Today, it is just not that big a deal to install an engineered wood floor and can be a D-I-Y project. As far as brands to consider, I have found that the web is not a good source. Several of the manufacturers have sites with pretty pictures and an advertising message but not much else. I e-mailed 3 of them for info with no response. Your best bet is to contact one or more good flooring stores in your area and see what they recommend. Read the warrantees carefully and pay particular attention to water damage potential. The brand that is advertised the most is supposed to be real weak in this area. Hope you enjoy your new house. Henry in MI
