I have wall to wall carpet over a creaking floor. Unfortunately the ceiling downstairs is also finished, and the creaks would be above the furnace ducting. The creaks were without a doubt caused by a toilet overflowing. My question is, it seems that all the home improvement sources I can find assume that the floor that is creaking is accessible either from above or below. This is not the case here. Is there a decent way to eliminate the creaks WITHOUT having to pull up the carpet?
