Repairing drywall after removing wood paneling

Would like to know if there are any new products to help in this process, lots of rips in the 1st layer of paper and some glue that seems pretty soft (Liquid nails) so this can probably be scraped off. The walls underneath are also painted a dark blue color, ugly! Any advice would help, it's a big job! thanks...
