Garage Door Opener Infra-Red beam Safety hook up

I moved into a home with a ~8yr old Craftsman Basic Garage Door opener. I've already done a search on this forum, but found no answer to my question:

When trying to close the door it will randomly stop and start to reopen. There is nothing in the way. The garage door light flashes to note that there is. The IR safety beam device on the left has a Green LED that constantly flashes while the door is closing. I am assuming that it is the IR beam device that is causing the problem. Is there a way to test this before going to purchase a new device? Can I jump a wire across the terminals to only test the garage door while it closes?
