Silicone Caulking Removal

Is there a product out there that will remove old silicone caulking? Or, is there an efficient method for doing this? I am trying to replace the old silicone caulking from my shower door surrounds. The old caulk has become mildewed. Finally, is there a better or more recommended product for resealing the doors than silicone. Silicone, while an admirable product, is such a bear to remove and replace.
