The heat pump works well if the house is well insulated. I would not suggest using a setback thermostat with a heat pump, it will take much time for it to get the temp back up. A disadvantage compared to gas heat. I have lived in homes with both types of heating systems and prefer the gas, it is fast and I found to be cheaper in energy cost. With propane systems the energy cost is higher in some areas. The repair cost on heat pumps units is higher than gas systems, unless the heat exchanger box on the gas system has developed a leak. The gas units cost more new than the average heat pump.
