I am in hte same process...I am going to remove all the paste. Several rooms (bathrooms in particular) in our house I am sure have been painted over paste and, it really looks bad in areas. So, after my current project, I am going to attempt to get those rooms taken care of. One the kitchen area I have completed, I just went over it a couple times with hot water and DIF and kept rinsing. It came off pretty easy. I think the key is mostly the hot water.
