Joe, the kind you have is quite safe to replace yourself with a reasonable amount of caution for what you're doing. Most likely the post you would have read that would refer to hiring professional help would be referring to the newer style lift springs which are on a rod over top of the door itself and are under extremely higher torque. Only real suggestion here beyond "common sense caution" that I can think of would be that you might want a second person handy to steady your ladder, as you will have to put some tension on the spring as you attach it.
