I think hardwood or not is personally a matter of taste. My mother-in-law put in a Pergo-type product and loves it because it looks new all the time. I, on the other hand, love how hardwood wears and looks over time and would never do anything else. That bamboo stuff, however, looks pretty neat.
I'm just going on-line to look up lumber liquidators and will report if we go with them.
