Carpet on soffit above kitchen cabinets

We would like to remove the carpet which is glued directly on the soffit in the kitchen. The carpet is a regular kitchen-type print berber with foam backing attached. When we tried to pull it off the soffit, only half the foam backing came off. The rest is held on with a rock-hard carpet adhesive. Any ideas about how to remove the rest of the foam backing and the glue?
