that the door is wood. So, I am assuming that the deadbolt part is on the door and that is what is in need of repair.

I think I read it right. I would not use 3/4" screws (that normaly would come with a deadbolt kit), to attach the lock.

I might have been wrong,(it could happen).

Your idea works well on a door jamb.
