Not sure what area you are in and what legalities are involved. In some areas you have to hire a special contractor to come in and remove it. You also have to have them dispose of it in a proper manner. I don't think it is currently recommended for the DIYer do to the environmental hazards it entails.
For other paint removal there are some wonderful paint removers nowadays. Your local home center should have a good selection. I have had the most success with the GEL types. You leave them on for quite a while (overnight) and they usually remove down to the bear wood.
