Attic flooring for storage

I need to install flooring in my attic so I can store miscellaneous items there. I’ve been told that sheeting the whole thing with plywood or particleboard is not a good idea because you trap the insulation and it can’t do its job. The other suggestions that I have been given are:

1. Use 1”x 4” boards spaced 2” apart. (Simple)
2. Use Ύ” x 2’ x 8’ or 1’ x 8’ sections of plywood or particleboard spaced 2” apart. (Quick)
3. Use Ύ” plywood or particleboard with a lot of 2” holes drilled in it. (Seems like a lot of work.)

Are any of these ideas OK to use? Do you have any other ideas that may be better?
