It sounds like your garage door might have been lubricated with a grease. The cold weather caused it to thicken and there is more resistance than the door will overcome. You can adjust the down sensitivity for the winter, but in spring I would wipe off the grease and lube it with a grease for garage door openers or even WD40. Then readjust the down sensitivity for safety.
