stanley garage door opener

My wife and I purchased our first house last year, it was built in 1989, but the garage opener was installed sometime around 1998-99, it is a piece of crap, we had always had trouble with it. Finally, it stopped opening. I have followed every instruction in the book and I cannot find why it is not working the way it should. I have tried to call the 1 800 number on the book, but for some reason it's always busy.
